Hey Family and Friends!
I have definitely have had a good week out here!
So things in the 7th ward are beginning to pick up. We met together as a ward yesterday and it was wonderful. We had a ton in attendance and all were excited to be there. There has been some complaint but it's pretty much ironed itself out now. There weren't any teachers called and sustained yet, so we had an extended fast and testimony meeting. Now that everyone has been sustained, things are getting up and running.
Quick update:
So the Lewis family didn't come to church like we committed them to, but we are going to follow up before Wednesday and invite them to the ward party Bishop is throwing for the ward at his home. Bro. and Sis. Lewis are both ex-Army, so they say that they don't get out much and make a lot of friends. We're working on them though.
The Welch kids are still making progress and coming to church. Things are looking good for them in May for court, so we're praying that they will be able to be baptized in May or June. We're hoping to see them twice this week. They have busy schedules so we're trying to work lessons into everything else.
Oh! Jasmine was baptized last night! I was able to stand in her confirmation circle. It was probably one of the most spiritual baptisms I have ever participated in. Jasmine's family had been praying for a very long time to have this miracle take place. The testimonies that were given in that meeting were very strong. She is well on her way!
Elder Neves and I are doing awesome together. He does solid work and he strives to be the best that he can. The Lord has blessed me with incredible companions.
I know that this work is the work of God. The Spirit of God is rolling forth upon the earth today. So many of the hearts of the children of men are prepared to hear the gospel message. Please share your testimonies with all who need them. Give the hopeless something to hope for. This world isn't going to change itself for the better if we sit back and do nothing.
Jesus Christ is real and living. I testify that he is there for us, ready to succor us at any time. All we need to do is show our spark of resolve that we are committed to Him and His church. We accept his atonement through living the doctrine of Christ. This doctrine is the most important thing we can understand in this life. I would invite all to study, ponder, and pray about the doctrine of Christ. It will change your life. It has changed mine.

Loving General Conference! 4/6/15
Hey Family and Friends!
This is going to have to be a short letter this time. We have another Zone P-day and we're supposed to meet at the church.
This week has been a good one. We have been exploring our new area, which is pretty big. I cover some of my old area from Quail Creek, and we are getting a lot of members from different units coming to our ward now. We will have to wait till next Sunday to see how big the attendance is, but according to records, we have a bit more than 70% of the ward listed as active.
There's a lot to do here and not a lot of time to get it accomplished. Our Bishop is amazing. We are going to have some of the best members in Oklahoma!
So, basically everyone I was working with before is no longer in my area except for the Welch kids. They're growing in testimony, and it's pretty awesome to see.
We discovered the Lewis family, a part member family. The husband, Zach, isn't a member. We stopped by and talked a bit to get to know them.
Piedmont will most likely be our base of operations in the near future. Not sure how long it will be till we move but we have to find a place and get it approved by Salt Lake, so it could take a little while.
I loved General Conference. Seriously, it's better than Christmas! Remember the immense blessing it is to have prophets and apostles here in these days. Don't let the naysayers get you to doubt your faith; opposition is a reality of this probationary state. Just make the real decision to stay on the righteous side no matter what, and you will receive incredible blessings.
I love my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am so glad he took the burden of my sins and weaknesses and allowed me to accept his atonement. I am grateful to him for reaching out once more to the children of men and restoring the true church. I know that he lives and that he loves me and you.

Tornadoes and Stake changes! 3/30/15

A great amount has happened this week. I will do my best to summarize while yet preserving an amount of detail.
On Monday, I reread an email my Dad sent to me about the concepts of "being right" vs "doing what's right", which stuck out to me again. Many times I recognize that I struggle with getting caught up in the web of "being right". The differences between pride and confidence is your maturity and understanding how you are aiding or hindering others in your performances. The problem with exalting yourself above another is you become competitive and contentious. We all know that contention is of the devil (3 Nephi 11:19). As we strive to develop a broken heart and a contrite spirit, the Lord will show unto us our weaknesses and as we work on them in reliance and faith in Him and His atonement, we will overcome our weaknesses. His grace is sufficient for us.
Tuesday was an exciting day. We were able to teach a lesson to Misty, a new investigator we found through her Mom, a recent convert of a couple of years. Misty just gave birth to a baby boy, and we taught the Plan of Salvation. She said that she learned a lot and said that she'd try to come to church. She wasn't able to, but I'll have to explain why later.
We also had an appointment with Jasmine. We taught her the 10 commandments and keeping the Sabbath day holy. We taught her the hand signs for the 10 commandments and she did a really good job remembering which ones they were. It was a really great lesson. She is progressing, her baptismal date is for 11 April.
Wednesday, I'll just jump into the tornado account since nothing really engaging occurred that day as far as missionary work went. Thanks to some heads-up from members as well as our weather radios, we were prepared for the bad thunderstorms that were developing Wednesday afternoon. We had dinner with the Black family, and while we were eating we watched Oklahoma's sky turn green and the weather picked up quick. Green sky is a sign for hail and possible tornado threats, so it was pretty intense. The tornado that touched down was in Moore, which is pretty far away from me but there was one attempting to form near 10th st and Rockwell, which wasn't far away. Needless to say, when you live in Oklahoma you should be prepared for such weather. Luckily our car wasn't damaged by the hail, so that was really nice.
On Thursday we did our regular weekly planning before we went out and talked to some people. We found James, a young kid that is a black belt. He talked a lot about some of his family issues, so we taught him how important families are and how they can be healed through living the gospel. He was interested so we set a return appointment for this week!
Friday we were able to talk to a bunch of kids outside of our dinner appointment and gave them Because He Lives cards for Easter. They told us that they have done some church hopping and they said that they would see if they could come to ours sometime.
Saturday was a service day. We helped a member stack some wood in his backyard and then met with Brian, the one that was doing the yard sale (can't believe I forgot to write his name last letter!). He is reading the Book of Mormon and he has got a lot of insights out of it. He's a pretty cool guy who loves Glenn Beck so we will see what becomes of him.
Sunday was a nuclear explosion for our Stake as a whole. Randomly on Friday we got a bunch of calls and texts from members saying that a stake meeting will happen on 10:00 Sunday, replacing our normal sacrament meetings. The Stake performed a boundary change, and added two brand new wards; the OKC 7th and Edmond 4th. It was pretty interesting because they had to change basically all of the boundaries in the stake to complement the new wards, but it is so inspired when you look at the changes. It's incredible how missionary work is already adapting to the change. Sunday night was transfer calls. I will be opening the OKC 7th ward with Elder Navez (not Chavez, literally Navez). I'm pretty excited! Now because we just moved I will be staying at the same apartment for more than a couple of weeks, so my address hasn't changed yet. Elder Hart is going to Edmond 2nd ward, so I will miss him. He is a great Elder! Elders Read and Gillies are staying in the 3rd ward, taking it over. It's a pretty extensive remodeling job done by President Walkenhorst.
And now today, I'm emailing you!
So yes, quite the remodeling job. But hey, spring is here, and spring is all about change. That's why I love the season!
The weather is predicted to get worse in the next few months. We'll get fairer temperatures but apparently this tornado season is supposed to be intense. We'll have to see what mother nature can bring to the table this year.
My mission experience has been absolutely amazing so far. I honestly think that the catalyst of change has been the most enjoyable thing I have been able to experience. Change in the people I teach, change in the places I go, and more importantly, change in myself. It is such a blessing that we can change through the atonement of Jesus Christ. I stand as a witness of such change, that it is possible no matter who you are or what you've done. Because Christ suffered through our weaknesses with us he understands where we come from and he works with us from that point on. He lives! Now all we need to do is find him through living the gospel. Seek him as you turn the pages of the scriptures, look for him when you come to church, call for him when you pray. I know that these things are true.

"This place is flat, the weather is insane..." (premonition?) 3/23/15
Hey Family and Friends,
We've had a really successful week!
I was able to meet the kids we are teaching! Their names are Ina, Jada, and Patrick. Ina is 13, Jada is 12, and Patrick is 10. They're really good kids that come from a bad family situation but they have been taken in to the Welch family's home. We taught about the Plan of Salvation and they thought it was cool. They all were really excited for the resurrection especially, they thought that was really cool!
We briefly were able to teach another kid named Rheaven (Pronounced raven), the daughter of a inactive part member family. She and her brother are interested in taking the lessons and the parents just barely allowed it. They set up our next appointment for 6 April, so we won't see them soon but we're definitely going to see them then.
We met a former investigator named Aaron as we were knocking on a potential investigators door. He is from Ghana and he just recently brought his family over to the States. He set up an appointment on Tuesday, so we will see him tomorrow! He mentioned that he's been trying to find a church to go to so we hope to see him this Sunday!
We've had a contact for awhile that was living with a potential investigator. We never really engaged talking to him about the gospel, since we've always been there for the potential. But this time Elder Hart and I felt specifically prompted to share with him the Book of Mormon and we had a really neat discussion in the middle of when he was doing a yard sale. We talked about God and who he is. We invited him to read and to pray about the Book of Mormon and he said that he would do so.
We've been talking to a lot of people and now we're working with a lot of people. When you open your mouth the ball gets rolling. Sometimes, it doesn't get started immediately but it does eventually get rolling. This area has been turning around for the better and now we are seeing fruit come from our labors. It's amazing how fast an area can get people to teach when you stop blaming your environment and change yourself to meet the situation.
The weather has been great so far! Today is going to be high 70's, which will be wonderful! I think we're going to try to get outside today for P-day.
I love Oklahoma and the people here! This place is flat, the weather is insane, and people take it slow here, but amidst all of that the gospel message is blazing forth. Many here are coming unto Christ through the waters of baptism. It is amazing to see the successes and the testimonies of the growing converts of the Church.
It just adds to my testimony that this gospel is true. The Book of Mormon is the word of God. Moroni wasn't kidding when he was exhorting us to read, ponder, and pray about it. Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, and we have a living prophet today!

New apartment 3/16/15
Hey Family and Friends,
This week felt like it took a month out of me! We had so much going on it was insane!
On P-Day we made some extra time to get things done. Tuesday night was fast-paced; the other Elder's in our district taught our scripture study class and right afterwards we had Correlation meeting with our ward mission leader, Brother Schmalbeck. The good news is that we are getting ward missionaries soon! We are helping the ward grow in their missionary labors.
On Wednesday I went on exchanges with Elder Hoddie, my zone leader. I felt like we talked to 70 people. Extending yourself and talking with as many people as possible has become the best way to find new investigators. While on exchanges, Elder Hoddie and I fulfilled an appointment with Jasmine. We taught about the Doctrine of Christ, and it was a really good lesson for her. She is absorbing a lot.
Oh yeah, and we moved this week to our new apartment:

The Gatchell's (our mission's senior couple that are over housing) gave us a call and told us that Friday after district meeting we will be moving into our new apartment. It was pretty chaotic getting everything together since they called us mid-Wednesday, so we did our best to pack everything and clean what we could. So that was our Thursday and Friday.
On Saturday we were able to attend a child of record baptism in our ward. And Sunday was full of planning for the rest of the week.
The weather has been a ton warmer and it feels great! The forecast claims wet weather for the rest of this week, so we will see how long it lasts.
We haven't been able to meet with Ricky in awhile. He is super busy because of "tax season", so I think that we won't be able to meet with him in a little while. I guess the job of an accountant is a busy one around this time.
I have a testimony of Jesus Christ. I am so glad to be able to preach his gospel. The blessings that come from living the gospel laws are undeniably great! As we are obedient to laws, we obtain greater liberty. I know that this gospel is true and that Jesus is the Christ.

Small world 3/9/2015
Hey everyone!
We had a colder week here in OKC. Just about everyone in the district has a cold or a cough but we keep on smiling! It's starting to get warm though, so we are all looking forward to spring!
Monday was a really busy day. We got done with our regular P-Day activities quickly so that we could get going on exchanges (it's basically a companion swap for a day for learning from one another). I went on exchanges with Elder Gillies and we had a lot of fun, unfortunately he was sick, so we weren't able to get out and work like we had wanted to.
Tuesday Elder Hart and I taught the scripture study class we have in the evening. It was about missionary work (I know, such a shocker of a topic choice) and how we can use the class to invite others who might be willing to learn more about the church. After the study class we went to correlation meeting where we meet with our Ward Mission Leader, Brother Schmalbeck. He's a pretty interesting 3/4 german guy who loves guns, knives, and self defense. Needless to say, we get along just fine! (see picture of man holding spear)
On Wednesday we had a winter storm blow in. We promptly froze our butts off as we were helping our Bishop's brother move into the ward. About 3/4 of the way done the moving truck broke down and we spent about 2 hours trying to jump it The battery needed a complete replacement in the end, and since it was an old International truck, the service mechanics that came had to climb under the truck and take off two panels to get to the battery itself. Not fun in 15 degree weather.
Thursday we had a heck of a time trying people but no one wanted to answer their door that day, so we talked to a lot of people. We met a guy who was changing his brake pads on his car that was a Presbyterian. He accepted a Book of Mormon and said that he would read it. He said he wasn't interested in the discussions but if he reads it and catches the spirit of it I think he will be giving us a call.
Friday we had a great appointment with Jasmine! We showed her the Restoration DVD and the knowledge stuck. She is reading the Book of Mormon and she is getting into it. It's pretty awesome to watch her grow in the gospel.
On Saturday morning we cleaned the church building. We were able to meet with the Torres family, who are recent converts who have struggled to stick to the church. They need fellowship, so we went over with their home teachers and taught a lesson with them. They came to church, which was wonderful!
Sunday we did a power hour with the Davick family after dinner, and they asked me if I knew a Fred Holbrook who was a stake president in Montana and a Clayton who was his son. I explained to them that I was Clayton's son, and I guess it proves that it's still "a small world". Sister Davick whipped out some yearbooks and showed me some pictures of my Dad, which were pretty awesome. It's amazing how you can go nearly anywhere in the world and meet someone that knows close family members.
But yeah, it's been a pretty awesome week. I definitely feel closer to my savior as I continue to serve him. A mission is what you make of it, and I feel that I am doing my best, but I know that I can still improve. Jesus really is the Christ, the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and we are led today by prophets and apostles. I love my experience out here!

Super short! 3/2/2015
Hey Family and Friends!
Unfortunately, this one is going to have to be really short.
We have had a really busy week here in the OKC 3rd ward! Elder Hart and I were able to go to Stillwater on Tuesday to do service for our mission vehicle coordinator, and on Wednesday we had Zone Conference with President Walkenhorst.
Our investigators are getting along. Jasmine came to church yesterday, which was really awesome. Saul has been pretty busy so we haven't been able to meet with him. Ricky doesn't know how his schedule is going to be like so we're going to have to call him later this week.
I love this gospel and I know that this work is the Lord's work. I am grateful to be participating in helping the church grow, and I hope that each and every one of us are looking for those who have been prepared by the hand of the Lord for them to receive the restored gospel.

Are we serving? 2/23/15
Hey Family and Friends,
It's been a crazy transfer week here in Oklahoma! I have moved over to the OKC 3rd ward and I have a new companion, Elder Hart!
Right now we're teaching some solid people!
Jasmine is a 10 year old who has been surrounded by the church her entire life. Her Grandparents are members and she had expressed to us that she wanted to be baptized. Tonight we have a lesson with her, so we are definitely excited to see her progress!
Ricky is in his 50's, he's an accountant and he has an office down in Lawton. His religious background is Catholicism, and he wanted to know more about our beliefs. We taught him the Plan of Salvation and it went great! He invited us back over so we will see him again soon!
Saul is a young father of 3 kids. He's a really well read guy about the Bible. He is an honest seeker of truth, but he is trying his best to wrap his head around the Book of Mormon. I believe that if he feels the spirit and will not cast it out, he will be a strong member of the Church.
I'm still learning this area, but I have recognized that it has wonderful potential. The ward here is nice, and we have some pretty interesting people here. I look forward to work with the members here!

I have learned a lot of important lessons this last week. As we go about our daily activities, are we aware enough of the service opportunities that are before us? Just as the Good Samaritan, we too must be willing to change our plans and honor our baptismal covenants to 'mourn with those that mourn, stand with those that stand in need of comfort'. As we devote ourselves to a life of unselfish love, duty and service, we will become who God wants us to be. I bear testimony that as we are serving others we are serving God himself.
I love my mission! It has been such a great experience so far! I hope to continue to do my best for the Lord so that I can grow as much as I can. I know that Jesus Christ is my savior, that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored Church of Jesus Christ that existed in the meridian of time. As we improve our testimonies of the Book of Mormon, our testimonies of these great eternal truths will grow.

Just as the Good Samaritan, we too must be willing to change our plans and honor our baptismal covenants to 'mourn with those that mourn, stand with those that stand in need of comfort'. As we devote ourselves to a life of unselfish love, duty and service, we will become who God wants us to be. I bear testimony that as we are serving others we are serving God himself.
I love my mission! It has been such a great experience so far! I hope to continue to do my best for the Lord so that I can grow as much as I can. I know that Jesus Christ is my savior, that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored Church of Jesus Christ that existed in the meridian of time. As we improve our testimonies of the Book of Mormon, our testimonies of these great eternal truths will grow.

Transfer to OKC 3rd (4th area) 2/17/15
Hey Family and Friends,Transfers is this week, and it looks like I am going to be leaving the Quail Creek Ward. I will be going to the OKC 3rd Ward! My area covers the north portion of the ward, as usual. I will have the temple in my area, which is really cool!
I drew a map to help you realize how short of a distance I'm really going:

So yeah, it's not very far...but that's okay! It's just five miles away!
My new companion will be Elder Hart, we will be in a four man district. I will be gone on Wednesday, so I will have to give y'all my new address when I leave. However, I think we might be moving in 1 1/2 weeks from the apartment there, so I might just have to wait till I get to the new apartment.
Things have been pretty crazy here in Quail Creek though.
Joyce wasn't able to come to church this week, and actually, she cancelled our appointment last week as well. So we haven't had any contact with her for about a week, of course not without us trying. Not sure what happened but I would ask that you would pray for her spiritual and temporal wellbeing.
We had a less active family named the Eve's show up to church! They're good friends with Bishop Francis but they are struggling in their testimonies a bit. They seem to be more willing to become active, so that's good news for the ward.
I'm going to miss Elder Rumsey a lot. He is a great companion, and my replacement gets to enjoy serving with him. This area has taught me a lot about hard work and diligence, especially when things don't work out. I love how the Lord works to conquer your weaknesses through constant stretching of responsibilities.
Elder Chavez was just called to be a Zone Leader over the Stillwater Zone, and Elder Burnham is going home after serving a full two year mission! It's strange, I always thought I was part of the younger generation of missionaries but now I'm starting to get old! Elder Nibley is going down to Norman, which is pretty exciting. Everything seems to be accelerating here in Oklahoma!
I love this gospel so much! It has given me inner strength, peace, and hope through applying the gospel of Jesus Christ. I understand and am working to apply more fully that exercising faith in Jesus Christ, repenting of my sins, keeping my covenants, enjoying a fuller measure of the Holy Spirit, and enduring to the end by applying all of this on a constant basis. It is a gospel of change, a message of hope, the thing that will allow us to come unto Christ and be saved by his mercy.

Just a quick one...2/9/15
Hey everyone!
We had a great week! The weather has been nice, we made some great progress, and we are getting real growth!
Joyce made it to church! She accepted a ride from Bro. Wessel, and she was able to come for the full three hours! She said that she liked it, and we're meeting with her again on Friday. She is making progress; we are excited for her baptism on 28 Feb!
We made contact with Julie Hensley...well, actually, it was her husband. He said that he wasn't too interested but she was and that she would give us a call. She has been sick for a week and a half now, so we're being patient. We'll follow-up with her soon if she doesn't call.
We weren't able to see the Vance's this week. We talked to Bro. Vance and he said to try them after Wednesday. So we'll stop by over the weekend and have another short lesson. There's some interesting Okies out here...

Strong testimony!! 2/2/15
Hey everybody!I've had a really great week out here! We're getting things going in our area!
So, the weather has been a bit confusing. It started off with warmer weather but it continued to gradually become colder and colder. On Saturday, we had a rainy day, which was nice because Oklahoma desperately needs the moisture. As of yesterday and today it's become really windy and the temperature has dropped pretty quickly. We may see a winter storm on Wednesday!
Joyce has been progressing but she wasn't able to come to church this week. We had set up a ride with her, but she cancelled because it was too cold for her. It sounds like she has had a history with respiratory infections, so I think her excuses are legit. We will see how she is in our lesson on Wednesday.
We went to a part member home looking for a Sister Vance and we were able to find her and her husband, Brother Vance. He's a really interesting guy. They're both "strong Methodists" and I don't think they are too interested in the Church but they definitely want us to keep coming back. We're thinking of ways to get the spirit in there so that their hearts will eventually soften to a stronger message about the Restoration. The process of conversion is different for everyone. They may take more time than others.
I went on exchanges with the new Elder in our district! We went to their area and we had some pretty crazy experiences! We first drove out to Choctaw to pick up a couch that a member's friend was donating to their apartment. We were driven by a member of the Village Ward named Bro. Gager. He's a Vietnam vet who is strong in his Navy roots. We rode in his three seater truck all the way out there and back. After we dropped off the couch at the apartment we got dropped off at the wrong place, had to bike on the Northwest Expressway, and then got picked up by President Clark, the ward's Elder's Quorum President. Afterwards we had a lesson with one of their investigators, then it was time to retire to bed. On Saturday morning, we got a phone call from President Clark asking us to help him move somebodies furniture out of their apartment. We got picked up and we drove to an apartment complex...that was nearly burnt down. Apparently this guy has been squatting in a burned apartment complex because he has nowhere else to stay. His neighbor lit the place on fire when he was cooking potatoes and poured water on an oil fire. Not so smart. So we moved all of his salvaged furniture out of the place and put it into the truck, then went to President Clark's house and loaded it all in his garage. Pretty interesting.
Oh, before we went on exchanges we went to lunch at the famous Nic's Grill. I wish I had a better picture, but the restaurant is a tiny place. It's amazing food though, and it was pretty cheap too. Look it up on Google, I'm sure there's some article somewhere about it!
On a more spiritual note, I would like to testify about the Gift and power of the Holy Ghost. This gift is absolutely incredible! We receive it by the laying on of hands (Acts 8) after we are confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As we keep the covenants we had made at baptism, we are promised that we will have the Spirit to be with us always. This means that we can be guided, warned, and protected from spiritual danger. It also means that we are able to receive edification and enlightenment towards the scriptures, our studies, and other bits of knowledge we are learning to expand our understanding. This gift enables us to be divinely inspired to the Lord's will for us. If we live worthily and participate in the thoughts and feelings we may receive, we will receive even further light. I have had some sacred and humbling experiences with the Spirit this week. I would invite you to learn more about how the Holy Ghost works with you. There is a great talk given by Elder Richard G. Scott that has greatly increased my understanding of the operations of the Spirit.
I have felt the Lord's love for me. I see his hand shaping me, helping me become the person he wants me to be. I know that he has this same love and council for every son and daughter who is willing to listen and act upon his message. I have faith that Jesus is the Christ. I have felt a mighty change of heart as I have lived the gospel law. I have experimented upon the word and I am gaining a knowledge that the word is true, that it is a good thing, and that it beginneth to enlarge my soul! I know that this church is true and that the Book of Mormon is that evidence of this marvelous latter day work. I have a testimony of the gospel, working towards a stronger conversion in Jesus Christ.

Baptismal date!
Hello Family and Friends!
Elder Rumsey and I have had a good week! We're gaining some momentum in our area and we're receiving people to teach!
Joyce has accepted a baptismal date for 28 February! We were able to teach her about the Plan of Salvation, and she readily accepted. She wants to know for herself that the Book of Mormon is true, and she is now keeping commitments! The biggest struggle now will be getting her to church, so we will see what we will be able to do for this week!
Jimmy Compton is a part member family/less active that we met with. The rest of the family is catholic and he had a separate meeting with us. We didn't really have the opportunity to meet with the rest of his family but we were able to talk with him. We're going to continue to meet with him and see if he is willing to come back to the Church.
Sophie Fanning is moving to the village ward, so we will be losing her soon. She hasn't made it to church yet but she is reading and praying often, which is a significant improvement from when we first met her.
Jose Ramos wasn't able to make it this Sunday due to work, but he told us beforehand so it wasn't that big of a deal. Tuesday night we met with him and with Bishop Francis. They got along well and Jose expressed a lot of his feelings. I think he's coming along just fine!
We received a referral from our Zone Leaders for a Julie Hensley. We haven't been able to meet with her yet, or anyone who lives in the home for that matter. She requested a Book of Mormon, so we are excited to be able to discuss with her why it's important!
Elder Rumsey and I went to Lawton on Saturday! Jesse Martin, an investigator I was teaching was baptized! It was a bit rushed and I wasn't able to take any pictures. It was a wonderful experience and I was able to say Hi to a lot of people from the 1st ward in Lawton, my last area. The work down there is going well!
We had Stake Conference this weekend! we met at a conference center in the middle of the City. It was pretty big, and we were in a concert hall so there were tiered seats with boxes on the sides. It was a wonderful Stake Conference and I was definitely spiritually fed!
I love the Lord for this opportunity I have had to be here in Oklahoma. My mission has been incredibly revelatory towards who I am and what my purpose is, not only as a missionary but as a child of God. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that he is at the head of this Church. When we exercise our faith in him we will be willing to repent, to change our lives according to God's will. As we make and keep our sacred and solemn covenants we will enjoy a fullness of the Spirit in our lives that will help us stay on the path towards eternal life. The fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has blessed me so, and I know that it may bless all lives that live it the best that they are able.

New investigator 1/20/15
Hey Family and Friends!
Oh boy, where to begin! It has been a pretty crazy week here in Quail Creek!
My companion and I have been on a hopeless quest to get a good map of our area. We decided last Tuesday to go to a business that made custom sized maps. We ended up talking for a little bit about what we wanted and what was all needed and the bill racked up to be about $2000 for two maps of our working area and our full area. Needless to say, we didn't take them up on their offer.
We do service every Wednesday at the Red Cross. We have been taking packets of info sheets containing survival/preparation tips for all sorts of different disasters and taking them apart and sorting the sheets so that they can repackage. There's a lot about tornadoes in the sheets. I guess they are preparing for the next season.
Our work with less actives is making progress. We've had one reactivation so far! We have been working with Jose Ramos, who has been working here in OKC by himself. His family is in Mexico still. Jose has served in the Marine Corps, so naturally we get along just fine. He got a bad taste in his mouth from some bad experiences from members. He has been difficult to get him to come to church, but he has come three times in a row now, so I'd say he's doing great! We're also working with Sophie Fanning. She's 22 and has had a struggling testimony since her teens. We've been trying hard to get her to come to church. She said that she almost came on Sunday, but unfortunately she woke up a bit too late. We're probably going to give her a wakeup call come Sunday morning!
Elder Rumsey and I finally nailed a new investigator! Her name is Joyce and she was formerly investigating the church, but she made no progress it seems. We taught her the Restoration on Sunday and she ate it all up! We left her with a commitment for baptism, she said that she had to think on things first, but she accepted to read the Book of Mormon and to pray about it. We will see her again on Friday.
Chelsae White has been very busy with her school activities. Another appointment fell through to meet her. The Murphy's are still engaged though, so we aren't worried about it. She will come around when it is her time.
Oh yeah, on Saturday the stake had a youth conference, and the missionaries in our district as well as the Spanish district were invited to host a class entitled "Mission preparation". We went over how important it is to extend commitments and to follow the spirit when teaching. We had a Q+A session with each of the groups and the youth had some awesome questions! The youth that we have in the Church will be amazing missionaries!
Yesterday we had a great P-Day! We actually played outside because it was 68 degrees! Oklahoma has been going through a warm spell, which has been an incredibly nice break but today the temperature has started to fall again. We will see how cold it gets this time around! :)
I have had some incredible experiences here in Oklahoma! I am striving to keep a journal to record as many events as I can. This mission has been the most enjoyable experience I have had in my life. I know that this Church is true, that Jesus is the Christ, and that through his atonement we can be healed from our spiritual infirmities. I love the Lord for all that he has done for me. I hope to give back what little I can through my diligent service.

Still finding... 1/12/15
Hey Everyone!
We had a pretty crazy week and I'm going to have to be quick for this update!
Our area status is still finding. Chelsae White hasn't been able to make any progress. We're going to meet with her when her schedule clears up, which she said should be happening soon but we don't exactly know what "soon" means. We've found some awesome potentials and we've followed up with some former investigators we have in our area book, so this next week looks like it's going to be a booming one.
The weather has been a bit chilly. We've had some small amounts of precipitation but nothing too big. Last night we had some pretty dense fog, which was really cool.
Elder Nibley, my previous companion in Duncan who is now my Zone Leader, has been sick in bed for several days this week so we have been going on exchanges with Elder Duffin, his current companion. Luckily it looks like Elder Nibley is doing better so I think he will be able to work today, so no more emergency exchanges! Yay!
Elder Rumsey and I are doing awesome out here, even though we aren't seeing a whole lot of fruit from our labors. We know it will come eventually, and even if it doesn't, we know that we are planting seeds here in Quail Creek. The ward knows we are working and more importantly the Lord is pleased with what we are doing here. Keep us in your prayers for some finding miracles!

What happened to 2014? 1/5/15
Happy New Year Everyone!
I can't believe it's already 2015! I'm still not quite sure what happened to 2014 but I am excited for this year!
This week we had some serious setbacks in our area, at least investigator wise. Basically every investigator that we had other than Chelsae White has dropped us or we have had to drop them. Elder Rumsey and I both decided at the same time that the slate we had needed to be completely wiped clean due to the lack of progress they are showing.
It's the end of the transfer and on Wednesday there will be some changes to our district. Our district leader, Elder Hightower, is getting a new companion who has only been out for two transfers. We're excited to have a fresh greenie! We are also losing a sister missionary, but she will do great at her next area. Elder Rumsey and I are staying together for another transfer!
It has been a struggle to get the ball rolling with our area, but we are making small, incremental progress. We're looking to baptize Chelsae this transfer. It's been really difficult to meet with her and we still have not been able to. She's crazy busy right now, so we may have to keep waiting to see any fruit come from this seed.
The weather over here is pretty chilly. An ice storm barely missed us, so on Saturday night it was just raining a bit.
This week I went on exchanges with my District Leader, and we went downtown OKC for a bit to find an address. I wouldn't ever call myself a city lover, but there were some pretty cool things that they did to make downtown look cool. I've attached some pictures.

Merry New Year! 12/29/14
Hey Family and Friends,
We had a wonderful Christmas! It was great being able to see my wonderful family doing well! I will be eternally grateful for the blessings the Lord has given to my family while I have been away performing the Lord's work in Oklahoma!
This week weatherwise it looks like the temperatures are going to start falling. There's news of a storm that is going to find itself in Oklahoma come New Years, so it seems that we may be getting some freezing rain and other odd weather events. Many have said that this winter is supposed to be a difficult one, but we haven't seen any harsh effects quite yet.
This week was filled with door knocking and less active finding. We have had some former investigators express interest to be taught again so we're excited for this week!
On Saturday we went to go visit Randy and Shirley Sheppard, however when Randy answered the door he said that they were no longer interested in learning more. Unfortunate, really, but I think with time he may come around again.
Chelsae White has been out of town, so she hasn't been able to meet with us still. It's really questionable when you set a baptismal date with someone and then you don't see them for a month. We hope to get back into contact with her soon.
Well, this is going to have to be shortened a bit, we have a busy P-day this week. I will leave with pictures of our district, zone, and some other random one's I've taken along the way.
1181 - Einstein was a genius! Basically all quotes apply to missionary work, and this one definitely applies!

Keep your faith strong in the gospel! Get to know your savior better through the scriptures. And remember, always apply 1 Nephi 15:24-25!

Merry Christmas! 12/21/14
Merry Christmas Everyone!
I hope we are striving to remember Christ this Christmas season! It's a great opportunity to be reminded to continue to worship, adore, and be grateful to the Father for Jesus Christ, the greatest gift any of us has ever received.
My companion and I are seeing many miracles right now! Yesterday right after church, we had the chance to go see a referral we had received a day earlier. The name for the referral was Randy Sheppard, and we called him just before we left to make sure that he would be home so we could stop by for a visit. He answered and said that he would be grateful if we could come as soon as we could, so we drove up there with one of the senior couple missionaries that live up near the town Crescent, which we cover as part of our area. We met him and his mother, Shirley. We introduced the Book of Mormon to them and Randy was all about it. He had a friend several years ago that introduced him to the teachings of the church and I guess the spirit worked on him 'till he got the courage to refer himself. Shirley is a bit interested, not as much as Randy, but we will see if she makes some progress!
Chelsae wasn't able to make it to church this week. I think that she was intending to come but something fell through. We're hoping to be able to meet with her sometime this week. We haven't had close contact recently, but she says that she's reading and praying so she still is making progress.
I'm really excited for the Christmas season and all that it brings! Remember the spirit that we feel in Christmas can be with us continually as we strive to remember Christ in all things!
